Refers to a family of
personal computers produced by
IBM. The term can also refer to
computers that conform to set of loosely controlled
standards. These are also called
IBM clones ,
IBM compatibles , or simply
compatibles. These terms are actually misnomers because many of the
PCs produced by IBM do not conform to industry standards. For example, IBM attempted to change the
expansion bus to MCA in its PS/2 line of PCs, but the industry did not follow suit.
