In
graphical user interfaces, to make a
window larger. Typically, there is a
zoom box in one corner of the window. When you
select the zoom box the first time, the
system expands the window to fill the entire
screen. (This is sometimes called
maximizing.) When you select it again, the window shrinks to its original size. (This is sometimes called
restoring.)
Many applications also provide a zoom feature, which enlarges the view of an object enabling you to see more detail.
