Lisa mouse
Last modified: Thursday, July 03, 2008

The name for the mouse that was distributed with Apple's first mouse-controlled computer called the Lisa System (pre-Macintosh) in 1983. The Lisa Mouse (model no. A9M0050) used a steel ball (instead of the rubber ball found in more modern mice), and was rectangular in shape with a raised front panel, and contained a single mouse button.

Apple Lisa I Mouse
The Lisa mouse design is a sloping beige box. A sleek raised panel, inset from the edges, wraps down to the base on the wrist edge.

Apple's long-awaited Lisa ushers in a new era of easy computing (01/31/83)
It actually looks a bit like a mouse, with its rounded corners, off-white color and thin wire tail. The size of a pack of cigarettes, it fits snugly into the palm of the hand. Slide it across a table and electric signals go down its 2-ft. tail. Plug that tail into a computer, and the mouse directs the movement of a pointer on a video screen.
