A class of
notebook computer that accepts
input from an electronic pen rather than from a
keyboard. Slate PCs are particularly useful in situations where keyboards are awkward or unnecessary. Typically, slate PCs can decipher clearly written block letters and translate them into their
ASCII equivalents. To date, however, they cannot handle script, although the technology of
handwriting recognition is progressing rapidly.
