Ellison, Larry Co-founder and CEO of Oracle Corp., a major software player. Ellison has been CEO since the company's inception in 1977 and has led the company from its initial focus on databases to its current focus of business on the Internet. As principal investigator at the Augmentation Research Center at the Stanford Research Institute, Engelbart led his research group in the development of the On-Line System (NLS), with tools to support asynchronous use by project collaborators. Under his leadership, the team also pioneered some of the first examples of hypermedia, multiple windows on a screen, display editing, outline processing, linking and in-field object addressing, context-sensitive help, and collaborative computing, including video-conferencing and use of remote shared workspaces.
Ershov, Andrei 1931(b.)-1988(d.) A founder of the Siberian School of Computer Science, Ershov was one of the early Soviet pioneers in the field of theoretical and systems programming. He investigated a broad spectrum of systems programming problems: implementation of DO statement in programming languages; hash-addressing with application to the common subexpression elimination; program schemata over distributed memory, and the theory and algorithms for global memory optimization.
